Adaptive technologies range from hand held magnifiers and video magnifiers to computer software that produces auditory and tactile outputs for the text displayed on a computer monitor. These technologies are very specialized and must be precisely matched with the individual's level of vision and their environmental requirements.
The T.K. Martin Center specializes in the assessment of persons with visual impairments who require assistive devices to perform activities related to education, employment, and independent living. The exploration of solutions for the individual's needs is performed by a low vision assistive technology specialist utilizing an array of state-of-the-art devices and software applications. These services may result in specific recommendations for devices as well as the configuration and preparation of the devices when purchased by the client or referral source. Recommendations will be thorough and may include a wide spectrum of low vision assistive technology.
