Mr. Whetstone has been responsible for the Seating and Mobility Laboratory at the T. K. Martin Center since the center opened in 1996. He developed and instituted all procedures for this clinical area at the center. The Seating Lab performs between 300-400 evaluations every year specializing in complex seating systems, advanced power wheelchair driving access, and custom designed and fabricated equipment. All aspects of positioning and mobility are addressed with the comprehensive multi-disciplinary team approach. This includes interfacing with home and work environments, communication and computer systems, and driving and vehicle modifications. Mr. Whetstone is happily married with three beautiful young daughters.
Research/Clinical Interests
Mr. Whetstone is presently the Principal Investigator for Project MACC (Mississippi's Accessible Commuter Car). This project's goal is to design and build a single occupant, wheelchair accessible, low-speed electric commuter vehicle. Many individuals are unable to drive automobiles with standard accessible accommodations. MACC is hoping to offer many of these individuals an alternative to dependency.
