Research Associate II

The T.K. Martin Center for Technology and Disability at Mississippi State University serves individuals with disabilities through clinical service, research, and training in the area of assistive technology. Clinical services include multidisciplinary team evaluations for assistive technology. The team consists of rehabilitation engineers, occupational therapists, a special education teacher, and speech-language pathologists.

A position is available for a Speech-language pathologist who would like a career in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). This position will be responsible for conducting evaluations for AAC, prescribing individual solutions to communication needs, and providing orientation and initial training in the use of AAC devices. In addition, this position will work in conjunction with Mississippi State University and T.K. Martin Center staff and faculty in presenting training and pursuing state and federal funding for research in the area of augmentative and alternative communication. This position will also provide clinical supervision for practicum students and have access to graduate assistants from a variety of disciplines.

A position is available for an Occupational or Physical Therapist who would like a career in assistive technology. This position will be responsible for conducting evaluations in the area of adaptive computer access and low vision and blindness. This professional level position within the T. K. Martin Center will be responsible for the assessment and prescription of adaptive and assistive technologies for person with severe physical, sensory, and learning disabilities. This position is responsible for adaptive computer interfacing activities and will serve on a team of professionals dealing with diverse projects ranging from adaptive driving aids, seating and positioning, mobility, and design and fabrication of individual assistive technologies. In addition, this position will work in conjunction with Mississippi State University and T.K. Martin Center staff and faculty in presenting training and pursuing state and federal funding for research in the area of assistive technology. This position will also provide clinical supervision for practicum students.

Qualifications required: B. S. in Occupational Therapy and licensed as an occupational therapist or a Master's degree in Occupational or Physical Therapy and licensed as either an occupational or physical therapist and one year relevant experience and demonstrated competency.
